Super Digital Linear Tape (SDLT) is a magnetic backup data tape technology introduced in 1984. The Super DLT tape was originally manufactured as a cost effective replacement for normal DLT tapes. All DLT (Digital Linear Tape) and SDLT (Super Digital Linear Tape) formats utilize linear serpentine recording with multiple tracks on ½ inch 12.7mm wide tape.
The SDLT tape format was originally introduced by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). In 1994, the SDLT cartridge technology was purchased by Quantum Corporation. Quantum now licenses the SDLT trademark and technology, and offers their own SDLT tape line which includes SDLT1 MR-SAMCL-01, and SDLT2 MR-S2MQN-01, and S4 MR-S4MQN-01 data tapes.
