LTO Ultrium 2 is the second linear tape open generation known as LTO2 backup tapes. The LTO2 cartridge is a 1/2 inch magnetic data storage cartridge for backup tape drives and libraries. The second LTO generation was released in early 2003.
The Ultrium2 tape cartridge holds 200GB native capacity, and 400GB compressed capacity. The original manufacturers for LTO were Hewlett Packard (HP), Seagate, and IBM.
The standard form-factor for LTO is known as Ultrium. The LTO2 cartridges are known as "LTO Ultrium2 data cartridges." Numerous manufacturers distribute the LTO-2 cartridge including Imation, Sony, HP, Dell, Fuji, Sun, Maxell, Quantum, Tanberg, TDK, and Verbatim.
