Tape Cartridge Labeling and Initialization:

In backup tape storage environments such as tape libraries or backup tape silo's labeling is utilized to provide automation when maintaining an inventory of tapes and their location within the library.

Preprinted barcode labels are available for almost all tape formats and can be customized to your desired needs. A large array of options are available when ordering custom barcode labels.

Backup Tape Label Alignment:
Most tapes have the option to choose horizontal or vertical alignment. This is the label position you desire when scanning or reading your back tape labels in a library environment. See the below example:

Media Type:
Before ordering tape cartridge labels, you must first know the format (media type). This enables us to choose the proper label template when printing custom barcode labels. Media Types or formats include AIT, DDS, DLT, Enterprise (I.E. 3590, 3592, 3570, 3490, 3480, 9840, 9940, etc.), Mammoth, QIC, SDLT, SLR/MLR, Travan, and more. If you are not sure about your media type, contact us for technical support.

Prefix:
Most labels come with a standard prefix which is up to six uppercase ASCII letters or digits. See the below example:

Batch or Sequence:
The batch or sequence is up to six digits and the batch size must be less than 10000 although several batches are allowed. The Prefix + the sequence numbers (batch) can only be up to six characters in total length. An example batch is LT6055-LT7054. This example batch would produce 100 labels. See the below example:

Checksum:
You may specify if your tape library requires barcodes with a checksum character.

Background Color:
You may choose the background color of the tape labels. Color labels are a Tri-Optic vibrant compatible scheme. Some simply choose black background. See the below example:
